Binman Job More Dangerous Than I Expected

Working on the bins, you don't realise how many dangers there are until you actually do it. You've got your sharp objects, glass, dangerous chemicals, wasps in the summer, heavy objects falling on your feet, the hazard of being run over(!), and general injuries like doing your back in. We are kitted out in safety gear - heavy duty gloves, safety footwear, high visibility jackets etc which does help.

The plus side of it is we can often knock off work about 11AM to 12PM - which is ideal for me as my wife starts work at 2PM so I can look after the kids when I get home.

A lot of people don't realise also the physical fitness required to be a binman. Believe me, it's quite a workout. We cover 200 properties each day - that's 200 bins between the 2 of us - 100 bins each, 6 days a week.
