One of our biggest problems during summertime is how hot the house becomes during the day. This was easily solved when we visited www.affordablesolarshades.com. Children need a lot of help these days as they choose what they want to do in life. I have always been of the opinion that changing the color of a house or even a single room can give it an entirely different look and appeal. Having recently installed my oak stair parts to my staircase, now I want to concentrate on my house's colours. With such a wide range of colors to choose from it is not an easy task to undertake, but there are places available who can point you in the right direction such as hardware stores. Personally, I believe the color of our off-white house is too common and it shows dirt much too easily. I would go with a light brown or beige color to the house and possibly add a darker chocolate trim to go along with it. The soft brown color seems much more inviting to me, and when I looked at some of the color samples to me I liked it even more. There are even computer programs now that can give you a simulated three dimensional view of what your house would look like with a given color scheme. Changing the color of your house is a big decision to make since you will most likely keep it that way for quite a while afterward. It is important that you are as confident in your choice as you can be before adding the color. I would speak to family, friends, and even the neighbors to get their opinion of the matter since they will be gazing upon your house on a regular basis. If I had the necessary funds I would absolutely paint my house and I would enjoy being able to come home to a house that has a fresh look to it. |

I have tried many pest control products - from bed bug powders to fly screens - and have to admit there is a lot out there and it’s difficult to choose from. I thing that after a person tries pest control products they will have to make a choice of what solves the problem. All come with different prices and fancy designs but I just want the one that works the best and get rid of my pest problem. In the past I have had lots of problems with ants and could not seem to get rid of them. I would buy products like Raid or Hot Shot and they would work but after a while they would always come back a little later. I got tired of that so I decided to call a professional pest control over and see what was going on. When the Orkin pest control guy came he looked at the house and saw what the problem was. He sprayed the entire house in and out and after that I had never seen another ant or any other pest. Orkin also said if I see any more pests just give them a call and they will spray again for free. My experience was great with them and would recommend them to anyone I know. |

I have always had a problem with conventional pest control. Sprays, door fly screens, glue strips, lethal traps, and foggers will, for the most part, do the trick. But the fact that these all contain poisons which can be harmful to children and pets is never far from my mind. I can live with creepy crawlies like spiders and even cockroaches. I have to draw the line at mice and rats though. These furry creatures carry a plethora of diseases easily contracted by humans. Contracting a disease from a mouse or a rat is made even more probable because of their diet. They basically help themselves to whatever is in our kitchens: cereal, cheese, bread, all rodent favorites. When they come into contact with these food stuffs they leave their diseases behind for you, unsuspectingly enjoying your morning breakfast of toast and coffee. I use only non-lethal traps for my rats and mice. |

But for me, DIY can also be about doing it yourself in the kitchen. Let me illustrate by showing you an example: there is no need to be intimidated about making a home pizza from scratch. The key for me has been to start a dough, get it fermenting with yeast, then go on with other work or chores and come back to it later. There is plenty of unhurried time for the dough to rise, and no need to worry about leaving it for an exact time actually the longer, at a cooler temperature such a room temp or slight less, is better for the end result. It makes a delicious bread crust! The absolute best advantage for me of a pizza from scratch, or all basic ingredients, is that I then know exactly what is in the pizza! Too many chain store or frozen pizzas have lab chemical-type ingredients that are not acceptable to me, such as sodium benzoate, a preservative. Another advantage is certainly cost. Flour is inexpensive, and, for toppings, I can add whatever is available, or even left over, in the kitchen. |

The recent recycling trend is a noble one. But when pursued without common sense, it can lead to unexpected consequences. Our local garbage collector, working with our community’s various “green interests,” provided us with little composting containers and little green bags to bundle up our raw food and compostable items (such as food-stained paper, coffee grounds, et cetera). We were now composting! Hooray! Imagine our surprise when, about a week or so into the deal, our living quarters were invaded by gnats, flies and other vermin, all of which were obsessed with our little composting container. To combat the vermin we purchased a bug-killing strip that we hung on the wall in our kitchen, as well as self-adhesive fly screens. Shortly afterwards we learned that these strips, which contain a chemical called dichlorvos, are dangerous to human beings. Dichlorvos inhibits an enzyme known as acetylcholinesterase. Prolonged exposure to dichlorvos leads to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and headaches, and in extreme cases, convulsions and coma. So in our attempt to control the bug infestation we created from our recycling efforts, we risked killing the biggest bugs in our apartment – us. Very effective pest control, wouldn’t you say? |

I like to model my gardens in the Japanese style, complete with solar security lights. In my favorite garden in my backyard, I have a flowering cactus, two snow on the mountain bushes, a small periwinkle bush with pink flowers, a native porterweed with blue flowers to attract butterflies, and 2 small plumerias. All that is next to a goldfish pond surrounded with rocks. I’ve been nestling oyster plants between the rocks around the edge to give it a more natural border. I also have what used to be a fake stone pond which I filled in with dirt, aloe plants and clearance pink flowers. My fiance put in a slightly bigger tub next to those two with a type of flowering lily. Our main pond has three different types of plants: one will grow about 4 feet and have orange flowers, some are papyrus plants and then some elephant ear plants thrown in as well to help hide the fish from birds and other random animals. |

Patience is a virtue that electricians need to have if they are going to expand in their business as electricians. My brother is a hand zone person, never been interested in classroom settings but anything to do with technical electrical stuff his interests would be tenfold. I went to a university and he went to a technical college to study on how to be an electrician. His friends wondered why he did not choose any other university around Fleet instead of going to a university. They just did not understand the passion he had in electricity related purposes. They did not know that one day he would become one of the best electricians fleet in the state. He is a very patient person. We started off, he did not earn a lot of money but he did not give up. This is probably because he was intent on learning more and also he liked what he did and nothing would make him think other wise even the pay. He has been an electrician for three years and he is earning enough money because he now has a home. |
