Need some advice on claiming benefits whilst out of work

I am currently out of work and i am not sure what i need to do next. I have found myself unemployed due to being made redundant and i am unsure what to do next. I know i need to claim jobseekers but do not know how to do this. I am also wondering how long for unemployment benefits to start after i have put the claim in to them. I am hoping it is not more than a few weeks because my redundancy is slowly running out and soon i will have no funds left at all. I have heard lots of horror stories about people claiming benefits and having trouble getting the claim in and processed. I am hoping that i can be one of the exceptions and my claim flies through or something because i really cant wait. I am just assuming that it will all go through fine, i was made redundant i didnt quit or anything so i would assume i am ok to claim the benefit due to this.
